Major League Baseball is the top level of baseball competition in North America. Comprised of teams from the United States and Canada, MLB effectively operates as a single league and as such it constitutes one of the major professional sports leagues of the United States. The league is split into two internal entities - the National League (NL) with 16 teams, and the American League (AL) with 14 teams. Both leagues are further divided into three divisions, East Division, Central Division and West Division.
The season begins in mid February with Spring training, a series of practices and exhibition games preceding the start of the regular season. The regular season schedule of 162 games begins in early April and runs through the post season, which begins in late September. Eight teams enter the post-season playoffs. Six teams are division champions; the remaining two "wild-card" spots are filled by the team in each league that has the best record but is not a division champion (best second-place team). A series of games are played amongst the division champion and wildcard teams to determine the #1 team from each league. Those two teams then face-off in a best-of-seven games series Fall Classic- The World Series.
The 2010 MLB season will be opening soon with spring training so don’t wait, get your Major League Baseball tickets now at GetSeats.com!
