While on vacation in New York's Catskill Mountains in 1963 with her family, Frances "Baby" Houseman shows little interest in the resort activities, and instead finds herself drawn to the staff quarters where a full on dance party is taking place. Mesmerized by the sensual dance moves and the pounding rhythms, Baby falls for Johnny Castle, the resort's dance instructor.
