Major League Baseball is the top level of baseball competition in North America. Comprised of teams from the United States and one from Canada (Toronto Blue Jays), MLB effectively operates as a single league and as such it constitutes one of the major professional sports leagues of the United States. The league is split into two internal entities - the National League (NL) with 16 teams, and the American League (AL) with 14 teams. Both leagues are further divided into three divisions, East Division, Central Division and West Division.
The season begins in mid February with spring training, a series of practices and exhibition games preceding the start of the regular season. The regular season schedule of 162 games begins in early April and runs through the post season, which begins in late September. Eight teams enter the post-season playoffs. Six teams are division champions; the remaining two "wild-card" spots are filled by the team in each league that has the best record but is not a division champion (best second-place team). A series of games are played amongst the division champion and wildcard teams to determine the #1 team from each league. Those two teams then face-off in a best-of-seven games series Fall Classic- The World Series.

NASCAR History
The National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) is a family owned and operated business founded by Bill France Sr. in 1948. The current CEO is Brian France, his grandson. The three largest racing series sanctioned by NASCAR are the Sprint Cup, the Nationwide Series and the Camping World Truck Series.
NASCAR was founded by William France, Sr., who was an avid racer in his younger days, along with several other contemporary drivers on February 21, 1948. The first official race tickets were sold for a race held at Daytona Beach on February 15, 1948. Red Byron won the race and went on to win the first national championship in 1948.
At the time, there was a strictly stock division which was true to the definition of stock as no modifications to the cars were allowed. They raced cars equipped “stock” from the factory. Performance enhancements and safety concerns dictated modifications over the ensuing years and by the mid-1960s the cars were built strictly for racing with the exterior bodies the only thing “stock’ that remained.
Sprint Cup Series
The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series provides fans with the highest level of professional competition and has become one of the most popular sports in America. The 2010 Sprint Cup Series consists of 36 races over a 10 month period. Jimmie Johnson has won the last four consecutive Sprint Cup Series championships, an unprecedented feat. In fact, he is the first driver to win three in a row since Cale Yarborough won the Winston Cup in 1976, 1977 and 1978. No one else has ever accomplished three in a row.
From 1971 through 2003 the series was known as the Winston Cup Series. NEXTEL took over the sponsorship from the R.J Reynolds tobacco company in 2004 and renamed it the NEXTEL Cup Series. A new scoring system was developed where drivers had to either be in the top ten in points after the first 26 weeks or had to be within 400 points of the leader to be eligible to win the championship. The final 10 weeks of races became known as “The Chase for the NEXTEL Cup.” This was a controversial change which is still not embraced by many long-time ticket buying fans.
NASCAR expanded “The Chase” to 12 drivers and eliminated the 400 point requirement in 2007. This new change awarded an additional 10 point bonus to the top 12 qualifiers for each win during the first 26 races. In 2008 NEXTEL and Sprint merged and the series was renamed the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. This system remains in place today and the final 10 weeks are now known as “The Chase for the Sprint Cup.”
As always, tickets for all the Sprint Cup races are available here at GetSeats.com
Nationwide Series
The "NASCAR Nationwide Series" is the next level of professional competition sanctioned by NASCAR. Kyle Busch won the NASCAR Nationwide Series in 2009.
The series was known from 1982-2007 as the Busch Series as it was sponsored by Anheuser-Busch. Nationwide Insurance took over the sponsorship in 2008 and of course renamed it the NASCAR Nationwide Series. Typically the Nationwide Series races are held on Fridays or Saturdays, a day or two day before the Sprint Cup races. In fact a number of drivers race both days. Many fans choose to purchase tickets to the Nationwide Series races as well as the Sprint Series as part of a full weekend of racing action. There are times, however, when tickets are available to Nationwide Series races at race tracks in cities where there is no Sprint Cup race. Check here at GetSeats.com for discount tickets to NASCAR Nationwide Series races.
Camping World Truck Series
The third level down as far NASCAR sanctioned professional racing goes, the '"NASCAR Camping World Truck Series" features modified pickup trucks. Ron Hornaday won the championship in 2009, the fourth time he accomplished that feat.
The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series actually began racing in 1995, when NASCAR formed the NASCAR SuperTruck Series which was originally sponsored by Craftsman tools. The next year, 1996, the SuperTruck Series was renamed the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. In 2009 Camping World became the sponsor and it was renamed accordingly.
Often the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series are held on Fridays or Saturdays, a day or two before the Sprint Cup races which are usually held on Sundays. Many fans choose to purchase tickets to the Camping World Truck Series races as well as the Sprint Series and Nationwide Series as part of a full weekend of racing action. There are times, however, when tickets are available to Camping World Truck Series races at race tracks in cities where there is no Sprint Cup race. Check here at GetSeats.com for discount tickets to NASCAR Camping World Truck Series races.
