The musical version of The Phantom of the Opera is one of the most successful and longest running shows of all time. It was composed and produced by Andrew Lloyd Webber and is based on Le Fantôme de l'Opéra, a French novel by Gaston Leroux. The play begins with the cast and crew of a French Opera House being terrorized by an Opera ghost.
Phantom of the Opera is the longest running musical show in the history of Broadway, now over 25 years since its debut in 1986. The novel it was adapted from, Le Fantôme de l'Opéra, won numerous awards and the play has won its fair share as well. The Phantom of the Opera is a very popular story having been adapted to numerous dramatic and literary works ranging from children’s books and films to musicals all over the world.
